What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a relatively brief, skills-focused treatment that has been shown to be effective for a wide variety of psychological problems. In CBT, clients work collaboratively with their therapist to address their interconnected thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

If you are interested in setting up an initial appointment, please email us at hello@UnionSquareCT.com, call 917-854-7092, or use Calendly to schedule a phone consultation. A 10-15 minute complimentary phone consultation is available prior to scheduling an appointment to answer your questions and to ensure that this therapy is a good match for your needs. Dr. Zweig will speak with you directly to discuss your treatment goals and your therapy preferences. Dr. Zweig will then suggest which of our therapists is the best match for you or will help with other referrals. It is important to find a therapist with the expertise to help you meet your treatment goals, and with whom you feel comfortable.

Do you only treat disordered eating? Do you only see women?

While our practice sub-specializes in treating the full range of disordered eating and body image difficulties, we are cognitive-behavioral therapists first. Each of us has extensive experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, and attentional issues in adults, adolescents, and children. We equally enjoy working with male, female, and non-binary patients. Many of our patients have eating disorders; just as many do not.

How often will I come to therapy?

The majority of clients attend weekly therapy sessions. Each therapy session, including the initial consultation, is 45 minutes. However, therapy can be customized to be more or less intensive depending on your goals, the severity of your symptoms, and our respective schedules. Although it varies among individual clients, cognitive-behavioral treatment lasts, on average, for 6-12 months.

Do you accept insurance?

Union Square Cognitive Therapy does not accept any insurance directly, though most of our clients use their out-of-network benefits to receive some reimbursement for session fees. Clients are billed directly for therapy sessions. Each bill includes the necessary information for submission to your insurance company.

How do I determine whether insurance will reimburse me for sessions?

As a first step, you should check with your insurance provider to determine their reimbursement rate for out-of-network individual psychotherapy sessions (CPT Code 90834) in the 10003 zip code. Your insurance company can also inform you as to whether they require preauthorization for treatment, have an annual deductible, or limit the number of annual sessions.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment is accepted by cash, check, Zelle, or credit card at the time of each session.

Do you offer a Good Faith Estimate at the start of treatment?

Yes. In compliance with the No Surprises Act, all healthcare providers are required to notify clients of their federal rights and protections against “surprise billing.” Additionally, we are required to provide you with a written Good Faith Estimate of the cost of your mental health services. The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and does not create an obligation to receive services from Union Square Cognitive Therapy. Of course, therapy is a collaborative process and we will always work with you to determine how many sessions you need.
